My cover of England Dan & John Ford Coley's beautiful 1976 song, I'd Really Love To See You Tonight, a song that influenced some of the early songs I wrote.

LYRICS

Hello, yeah, it's been a while.
Not much, how 'bout you?
I'm not sure why I called.
I guess, I really just wanted to talk to you.

And I was thinking maybe later on
We could get together for a while.
It's been such a long time
And I really do miss your smile.

I'm not talking 'bout moving in
And I don't want to change your life.
But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight.

We could go walking through a windy park
Or take a drive along the beach
Or stay at home and watch TV
You see, it really doesn't matter much to me.

I'm not talking 'bout moving in
And I don't want to change your life.
But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight.

I won't ask for promises.
So, you don't have to lie.
We've both played that game before:
Say "I love you", then say "Goodbye".

I'm not talking 'bout moving in
And I don't want to change your life.
But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight.

I'm not talking 'bout moving in
And I don't want to change your life.
But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight.

I'm not talking 'bout moving in
And I don't want to change your life.
But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

LYRICS

After I recorded this song, I was rather surprised to run across posts that claimed the actual lyrics were not:

But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight.

but rather:

But there's a warm wind blowing, the stars are out,
And I'd really love to see you tonight.

I agree that this wording has a more obvious (even mundane) meaning. But that's actually why I (and so many other people) love the lines as we have always heard them:

But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight.

because they're so much more poetic: the "warm wind" is one's heart feeling, and "the stars" are the astrological stars of destiny.

So I dug into this a bit more. I looked at the lyrics to another of Parker McGee's song, Nights Are Forever Without You, and found another very poetic line:

Moonlight falls like rain.

I listened very carefully to England Dan and John Ford Coley's singing on the original version, as well as Dan Seals' slower 1995 version — and in both versions, I clearly hear the "n" in the word "around" (rather than the words "are out").

So I consider the case settled, and I sing the song the way I've always heard it!

By the way: if you like this song, Dan Seal's slower 1995 version is worth a listen — his warm voice and his lovely guitar work make it a real delight to listen to.

COVER ART

The cover art was inspired by those same lines:

But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight.

I'd Really Love To See You Tonight
