LYRICS
ALL I NEED IS YOUR LOVE
I don't want you crying for me.
I don't want you trying for me.
If you'd share in
a dream I'd see come true,
then it's got to come as easily for you.
Don't I know that you must be free?
That's the way I love you to be!
If, like some other men,
I have bound you too,
well, just tell me, and
I'll walk away from you.
You see,
I don't need promises, my love.
The best of friends
should know each other well enough.
And all I want is happiness for us.
And all I need is your love.
All I need is your love.
Our lives are our own to command. . .
And if you ever know where you stand,
I'd be happy
to help you make it through —
'cause I'm so in love
with the sun that shines in you.
You see,
I don't need promises, my love.
The best of friends
should know each other well enough.
And all I want is happiness for us.
And all I need is your love.
All I need is your love.
I don't want you crying for me.
No, I don't want you trying for me.
If we'd share in
a dream we'd see come true,
then it's got to come as easily. . .
yes, it's got to come as easily. . .
well, it's got to come as easily
for you.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
MUSIC: This song (especially the verse) was musically influenced by the Righteous Brothers' You've Lost That Loving Feeling, as well as Billy Joel's Until the Night, his 1978 homage to "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". At the same, the tresillo/calypso rhythm (breaking the 8 beats in a measure into 3-3-2) — which you can hear especially clearly in the bass line — gives the song a lighter, breezier feeling than either of these songs, especially in the chorus.
According to BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.), “You've Lost That Loving Feeling” is the most played song of the twentieth century. As my own appreciation of one of my favorite songs: if you listen carefully near the end of the song (at 3:04), you'll hear the famous violin riff from “You've Lost That Loving Feeling“ (sped up a little to fit my song).
