On the Wings of Love LINKS ABOUT THIS SONG music/lyrics: Peter Schless, Jeffrey Osborne release date of this version: September 30, 2023 length: 3 min 47 sec vocals: Chris Tong karaoke arrangement: KaraFun Karaoke My cover of this beautiful, uplifting love song, On the Wings of Love, often chosen as a wedding song because of the purity and strength of its message, and the feeling in Jeffrey Osborne's voice. This is a song arranged to keep soaring ever higher, and so I sing it accordingly. LYRICS Just smile for me and let the day begin. . . You are the sunshine that lights my heart within. And I'm sure that you're an angel in disguise. Come take my hand and together we will rise. . . On the wings of love Up and above the clouds The only way to fly is on the wings of love. On the wings of love Only the two of us Together flying high Flying high upon the wings of love. You look at me and I begin to melt Just like the snow when a ray of sun is felt. And I'm crazy 'bout you, baby— Can't you see? I'd be so delighted if you would come with me. . . On the wings of love Up and above the clouds The only way to fly is on the wings of love On the wings of love Only the two of us Together flying high Flying high upon the wings of love. My yearning heart set free Because you are with me. And now we share A world together. Inseparable it seems. We're flowing like a stream Running free, travelling on the wings of love. On the wings of love Only the two of us Together flying high Together flying high On the wings of love Up and above the clouds The only way to fly Is on the wings of love. On the wings of love Only the two of us Together flying high Together flying on the wings of love. ADDITIONAL NOTES Major/minor key love song. This song alternates back and forth between major and minor. In most cases, I don't like love songs in minor keys, or with sections in minor keys, because the minor key sections generally are bringing in feelings of (and lyrics about) sadness, anger, or depression. However, this song very artfully uses its minor key sections for a different purpose: to add seriousness and gravitas to the song's uplifting communication of love. The only other love song like this that I like is The Beatles' And I Love Her, because its minor passages all resolve into major chords. Change to the lyrics. I changed a few of the lines in the lyrics, from: Lower key. I have a lower voice than Jeffrey Osborne, so I lowered the key of the song from G to F. Shorter ending. The original song ends by repeating the chorus four times (followed by a final "cool down" section). To my ears, thats starts to get a little tedious, so I end the song after three repetitions, which feels exactly right. |
